Small Community Air Service Development Program Grants

The federal Small Community Air Service Development Program is one of the preferred ways for smaller airports to raise capital in support of new routes, and more competition.  Sixel Consulting Group has been active in helping airports win grants since the Program’s inception early in the decade.  In fact, since 2002, SCG written SCASD Grant proposals have won client airports nearly $10 million for new air service.

One Sixel Consulting Group Grant proposal has been called the most successful ever – a project to bring United Express service to Idaho Falls Regional Airport, from the Denver hub.  SCG was successful in its bid for $450,000 in federal revenue guarantee funding.  United launched CRJ service on the route in 2005.  The route was profitable from the very first flight.  At no point did the airline dip into any Grant or local funding.  The Grant money was returned to the Department of Transportation, for use in another community, in 2008.  The service is flown twice daily – and still profitable – today.

We’ve also helped airports win money for other projects, including marketing and advertising programs, and start-up cost offsets.

SCG recently completed an in-depth analysis of all the SCASD Grants, from inception to today.  We figured out what’s worked best, and what hasn’t worked at all – based on long term success in meeting an airport’s stated goals.  We’re happy to share our Grant research with you.  Just contact our Director of Market Analysis, Jack Penning, at jack@sixelconsulting.com.
