Community Meetings

One of the most overlooked facets of air service development is the process of getting a community on board, in support of the airport’s efforts. Sixel Consulting Group works hard in its client communities to make sure the airport has the support of major businesses, economic development agencies, and chambers of commerce. We travel to many communities, meeting with key leaders, including airport board members, elected officials, business executives, economic development agencies, chambers of commerce, travel agents, and other interested community members.

These community meetings include SCG’s take on the current state of the aviation industry, an overview of the performance of the airport relative to other regional airports, an overview of best practices to build air service in the current environment, an outlook as to where the industry is headed in the next 12 to 18 months, an a view as to how that future environment will affect the market.

SCG also spends time speaking with local media about the importance of the airport to the economy of a community. In some cases, SCG team members can go door-to-door, meeting with key leaders in their own offices, working to earn their support for future air service endeavors.

We’ve found these meetings have long term impact. Many airports have told us it helps to have a relative “outsider” deliver a message – adding credibility to the airport’s efforts.
